( CHARACTER INFORMATION )
Name/Work Name: Yukio Okumura / "Ryou"
Canon: Ao No Exorcist ( Blue Exorcist )
Canon Point: Episode 3 of the anime, "Brothers"
AU/CRAU: Nope!
Age: 15
History: Yukio's page on the AoNo wiki.
Personality:
Yukio Okumura, in a single sentence, is a very strong-willed and driven individual.
From a very early age – seven, in fact – he has wanted nothing more than to not be afraid, and to protect his older twin brother, Rin. He wanted to be strong, more for his brother's sake than his own, but it has always been Rin that took the dominant role in that respect. ( This is perhaps due to Yukio's calm and quiet nature, which mirrors his twin's loud and sometimes overwhelming presence. ) This drive led to the inevitable training to be an exorcist, in order to take control of everything that he was afraid of as a child, and thus resulted in the youngest exorcist True Cross has ever seen.
At the age of fifteen, he has already reached the rank of Intermediate First Class, and even more impressive still is the fact that he is also the youngest instructor at the cram school. ( Something his brother is shocked into speechlessness by once he realizes it. Probably the only time the kid has ever not had anything to say. ) He has also obtained the titles of both Doctor and Dragoon, an accomplishment that not very many exorcists have managed, or even tried for. ( Except Suguro wants to try for both Aria and Dragoon. Ambitious little shit. )
Despite the fact that he and Rin are twins, they really couldn't be more different from one another. Yukio nearly always boasts a calm and collected exterior, not letting even the slightest thing throw him off – unless, of course, that thing is his brother. If you want to see a frazzled and twitchy four-eyed mole-face, all you have to do is implement shenanigans brought on by one ( 1 ) Rin Okumura and get the popcorn ready. Nothing can ruffle this boy's feathers more quickly, and while he tries to keep his cool, more often than not he ends up snapping at his brother and calling him an idiot.
This happens a lot. Like, a lot a lot. And it's not likely to change, either.

Case in point. Default expression.
He is respectful in all aspects, and maybe even a little shy when it all comes down to it. ( Again, this could be attributed to the fact that Rin is so loud that it's easy to just fade into the background and let big brother have center stage. ) He usually prefers to stay quiet unless there is something important to be said or he's making a valiant attempt at teaching a class – and it's a sad truth that he ends up chastising Rin for either not paying attention or falling asleep in the middle of a lecture more often than he really cares to admit. ( Brother, pay attention please. This is important. You can't get to the rank of Paladin if you're stuck as an ExWire for the rest of your life. :| )
It also goes without saying that he goes to any lengths and means necessary to make sure he's prepared for anything. Whether it's for an upcoming mission that requires his expertise or ensuring that he has enough lessons planned out for his classes for months to come, there has never really been a time when he's fallen short of his own self-set goals. ( Which also means that he's kind of a workaholic. Fifteen years old, and he's already angling toward working himself into the ground. He needs a hobby or two.
But that's kind of difficult when you have a full-time job that consists of babysitting your ridiculous twin. )
Now, just because he's usually nice and calm and collected, that most certainly doesn't mean that he doesn't have the occasional crack in his composure. He's beyond tolerant of the shenanigans of both his brother and his students, but sometimes it gets to be too much – and there's the glimmer of a Yukio that no one really wants to see. The one that has a temper kept tightly under wraps and that, if pushed too far, may unleash the very fires of hell on whoever is doing the pushing. ( Let's be real here. We all know who would be doing the pushing. Come on, now. )
It also bears mentioning that just because he's quiet, it doesn't mean he isn't familiar with the art of sarcasm. He's always been quick-witted, quick on the uptake, and it never seems to fail that he has a word or two for a certain fuzzy-tailed demon dork. Mostly because none of his students merit that sort of treatment, unless your name is Renzo Shima and you don't have enough room in your brain for the scriptures you're supposed to be memorizing because you're too busy thinking about the ladies.
Why can't you all be like Suguro?
Practical and pragmatic, he has always been the type to take the time to try to figure something out completely before employing any sort of method of resolution. He has to understand things from every angle, scrutinize every detail before he's satisfied with his analysis of a given situation – unlike someone else he knows, who shall remain nameless
Most of that worry is generally directed at his brother – what he's doing, if he's getting himself into trouble, whether or not he'll be able to get out of trouble if he gets into any, so on and so forth. Seriously. Full-time babysitter. No rest for the weary. ( And this is why he can often be found having fallen asleep sitting straight up. Sigh, Yukio. )
He also employs unique strategies when under pressure.

In short, this boy is a myriad of good and kind and sometimes-pretty-scary-if-you-forget-his-mineral-water-but-get-yourself-two-ice-cream-bars all wrapped up into one neat little package. A package that is kind of a badass behind the glare of his glasses, a gunslinger with the precision of a sniper that worries too much over being strong enough to keep his brother and those he cares about safe. ( It will always be a constant worry in the back of his mind, whether he's consciously aware of it or not – even if, most times, he is very much aware of his own shortcomings and what he can do to resolve them. ) He'll smile and nod and carry on even in the most awkward situations, even if he is just the slightest bit uncomfortable –
Or he'll just snag Rin by the arm and use him as an excuse to see himself right out. Thanks for being an escape route, brother. He really owes you one.
Debt: Yukio would honestly, willingly agree to take on any perceived debts that his brother has accumulated. Atoning for his laziness, absent-mindedness resulting in breaking something, any other sort of payment he might have owed to anyone back home. ( There is also the fact that meal tickets at the Academy cost a hell of a lot more than he ever has on him, and his brother can eat like it's nobody's business. :| Sheesh. )
Basically, if there's any way to convince him that Rin will not owe anything at all, whether within Koriko or back home, he will agree to it. This also means that any debts he manages to accumulate for himself while in the city – maybe that's the initial situation, the witch tells him that Rin is already there and is up to his eyeballs in debt, could use some help paying it off … – will automatically come to Yukio instead.
Suitability: Yukio is no stranger to hard work, no matter what kind, and if he's convinced that it will help his brother in any way, he will agree to it. He doesn't like the idea of owing anyone, whether it's on his own behalf or not, and given that he sees himself as Rin's caretaker – I'm not even kidding – he'll see it as a sort of personal responsibility to take care of this, too. Perceived or not.
He isn't gullible by any means, but it isn't all that difficult to believe that Rin has managed to find himself in the debt of a witch. Stranger things have happened, we're sure. Having the witch tell him that his brother is in need of his help would automatically result in the signing of the contract, and while he won't think any differently of his twin and his penchant for getting himself into situations that frequently merit the help of the younger, it will just be another instance oh, you. Basically. He'll just sigh and shake his head and get to work, take it with the proverbial grain of salt and get the job done.

✝ a manga volume of questionable origin ( title redacted )
✝ one ( 1 ) bottle of mineral water
✝ one ( 1 ) package of kiwi-flavored gummies
Abilities, Strengths, and Weaknesses: He is a very skilled and experienced exorcist, having acquired meisters in both the Doctor and Dragoon categories. As a Doctor, his medical expertise is unparalleled, and there is little – if anything at all – that he cannot treat. This also lends to his knowledge of Anti-Demon Pharmacology, of which he is currently an instructor at True Cross Academy. ( The youngest instructor to teach such a subject, in fact. Damn son. )
A meister in the Dragoon category means that he skilled with weapons such as firearms, and he is always seen dual-wielding a pair of pistols with deadly accuracy. ( No, seriously. He doesn't even have to be looking at the target directly to hit it dead on. Crazy, huh? )
Some of his most notable strengths revolve around the fact that he is so disciplined. That he has nearly inexhaustible tolerance, patience, enough that he can take on the task of keeping an eye on his older brother without even so much as batting an eye. He is deeply analytical, needing to fully understand a situation before he even comes close to thinking of a way to resolve it – as I've already mentioned – not to mention that he's practically a genius, seeing as he is the youngest individual to train to be an exorcist and gain its title.
He maintains an air of neutrality, though he can ( and will ) take opportunities to poke fun at his brother when they arise – as is made almost painfully clear when he publicly berates Rin for doing so poorly on a quiz and Suguro has made one of the best scores in the class. Above all, he is kind until you give him a reason not to be, and if and when that ever happens, you'd better have a back-up plan. Or an escape route.
You really don't want to get on his bad side. ( Which means never forget his mineral water. Ever. And don't break his glasses. And don't insult his brother. And … )
Most of his weaknesses, however, stem from the worry that he will never be strong enough to protect Rin as much as he thinks he should be able to. There are times when he doesn't trust himself with the task, even though it's the one thing he wants more than anything else in the world, and that worry, that fear, is crippling. Though he may be strong-willed, Rin has always been the stronger of the two of them, and the idea that he won't be able to be everything his brother might need from him cuts deeper than any tangible sort of blade could.
Self-doubt can be a terrifying thing. Especially when it might affect something as important as protecting the one you love the most.
He has a bit of a temper, though he tries to keep it in check, and it's really only when he's pushed that it comes out to be seen at all. ( Rin is usually the one doing the pushing, but it doesn't take too much to trigger a flare in anger, especially if one were to mention anything at all about his brother and whether or not he's able to keep his demonic powers in check. Yukio will take any chance he can get to defend him, and only hope that he ends up being right. As depressing as that actually is. )
